    Details

Tell-O-Clock is a classic mentalism effect that is easy to perform, baffling and cost effective. A must-have.

    The Effect:
A small box with sliding door is introduced. When the lid is slid down the face of a clock is seen inside. Spectator is asked to mentally select any hour between 1 and 12. After the selection has been made the spectator is instructed to rotate the hand to show the selected time and close the cover of the clock. This is done while the performers back is turned (the performer can actually be out of the room)! The performer turns around and immediately announces the exact time the clock was set to. The performer never even touches the clock!

Perfect for mentalists or close-up magicians.

The gimmick is truly simple, and it only takes a minute to understand how it works once one reads the instructions. Thus, success with Tell O'Clock is all about performance skill and patter; I describe it as a time machine that lets me travel through time, but only in increments of one hour, and it requires 9 11.9-volt batteries to work.

Despite the gimmick's simplicity, one should definitely practice reading it before performing; I quickly discovered that there were instances when at first I couldn't tell whether the time was X o'clock or X+1 o'clock. Through further familiarization with the gimmick, I learned that it's always X+1 o'clock in these cases, because X o'clock is always unambiguous.

My only other issue is that the sliding door on mine doesn't want to stay in the top position, covering the clock, when the device is held vertically. This doesn't affect performance too much, IMO, since you can have it put horizontally on a table or hold the lid in place, but it's something I must note in this review nonetheless.
