The Royal Road to Card Magic is considered by many the place to start your card magic education. Personally, I like the book. It's cheap, there is a lot of material in the book and therefore a great value. However I don't think it is the best place for beginners to begin. The text is difficult to read and understand. It is meticulously written but hard to follow the description of finger placements. I would recommend a good instructional DVD and then supplement your learning with this inexpensive book.
