Jean Hugard and Frederick Braue's Expert Card Technique is the definitive work on card technique, step-by-step instructions teach you the correct methods for the basic manipulations and the more advanced flourishes, and only then allow you to learn tricks.
Breakdown:
Offering the most foolproof methods available, Jean Hugard and Frederick Braue explain such basic manipulation as the palm, the shuffle, the lift, the side slip, the pass, the glimpse, the jog and the reverse. They detail various false deals, crimps and changes and the more advanced execution needed for forces, fans and the use of the prearranged deck. Also presented is a wide variety of tricks, including discoveries, self-working tricks, one-handed tricks, stranger cards, and such individually famous tricks as The Four Aces, The Rising Cards, and the Zingone spread. In addition, the authors include a complete compendium of shakedown sleights-to warn the card player and aid the entertainer-and a performer's guide to misdirection and patter. Many of the methods explained were revealed here for the first time, while many previously known tricks are presented in improved version. In every case the aim is simplicity of technique for the purpose of mystifying an audience, not technique for sake of technique. An unsurprpassed collection of methods and manipulations, this classic work will help any aspriring magician to achieve expert card technique.

Expert card technique is a classic book in card magic and I believe that all card magicians should read this book for it has some great sleights. I am quite young and have only been doing magic for around a year but I am quite advanced and this book teaches fundamental techniques and many different varieties and you kind of find the one that suits you. All in all I think this is a great book. (Posted on 4/22/13)Performance Ease Of Use Price - Review by Illusionist

This is perfect for anyone who wants to advance their ability in card magic. I recommend reading Mark Wilson's Complete Course in Magic first. (Posted on 3/25/13)Performance Ease Of Use Price - Review by KDinLA

To Follow-Up: If You Are An Aural Learner That Is Comfortable With Clearly Written, Textual, Instruction, You'Ll Appreciate The Subtle Elegance Of This Book. If You Are The Kind Of Person That Needs A Lot Of Visual Examples To Really Master A Technique (Like Me) Then I'D Recommend This Book After You'Ve Already Become Comfortable With Basic Techniques From A More Visual Series Like The Mark Wilson Books Or Even A Dvd Primer.
