  • Afraid of Getting Caught - Weekly Recap

Posted on November 8, 2013 by Chris Ballinger

Congratulations goes out to Steven Marsh, winner of the El Capitan Mega Pack. If you didn't win, don't fret. We are hosting a Mystery Box Giveaway all weekend long, so keep it right here at Magic Geek and see how you can enter to win!

Well, first off I guess I should talk about Sponge Balls themselves. If you don't have any yet, what are you doing?! They're great, versatile, and get a fantastic response. We have them is several different sizes: 1 Inch, 1.5 Inch, 2 Inches, 2.5 Inches, 3 Inches and each style comes in a variety of colors.

    Sponge Balls

I also mentioned Oddballs by Scott Strange and the Steve Dacri Sponge Ball Tool Kit. Steve Dacri also has several instructional DVDs that are definitely worth checking out including No Filler Volume 1, No Filler Volume 2, and (you guessed it) No Filler Volume 3.

And let's not forget my two favorite sponge routines: Mad Sponges and the 3-D Rabbit Set by Goshman.

This week's featured trick was Inferno by Joshua Jay:

I have to say, this routine impressed me. The perfect meld of psychology, gimmicks, and sleight of hand to created a magic trick with just one card. It's easy to carry around, instantly gets the audience's attention and works great.

Be sure to leave your questions on Rope Magic.

  • Anttack II Review

Posted on October 31, 2013 by Chris Ballinger

Anttack II is getting a great response from customers and critics alike! Check out this review by Kyle Marlett:

If you want to skip through the video, the Anttack review starts at the 7:26 mark. You can also click HERE and it will auto-play at the start of the Anttack review.

After watching Kyle's review we got so excited that we launched two new products to go along with Anttack II.

The first is the much-needed Anttack Refill Pack which includes three times the amount of ants that originally comes with Anttack II.

The Second item is something that I am really excited about: The Revolver Expansion Pack. This includes everything you need to convert your Anttack II deck into the exploding gimmick featured in the instructional DVD. In this pack, you'll find the explosion gimmick, the re-usable adhesive (which won't leave any residue) and enough rounds to perform 96 times!

Thanks to everyone who bought Anttack II and I hope these additions make your experience with Anttack even better.

  • People Hate Card Tricks - Weekly Recap

Posted on October 11, 2013 by Chris Ballinger

This week I answer your questions about card tricks:

As I said in the video, Anttack II is now available. If you pre-ordered it, it's on its way to you; if you order it today, it will ship out right away. We have a hand-full of the 100 first-run signed copies left, so hurry and place your order.

I also recommended the Ultimate Self-Working Card Tricks Volume 1 and the Ultimate Self-Working Card Tricks Volume 2. Both of those DVDs are fantastic and have some extremely clever magic in them.

I also talked about the my preference between the Brainwave Deck and the Invisible Deck. In that segment I also touched on the Hand-Picked Astonishments: Invisible Deck by Joshua Jay and Paul Harris. This is a fantastic resource for expanding what is possible with a standard Invisible Deck. In fact, I used one of the routines recently in a large comedy club and it went over better than any other routine I've ever done with the Invisible Deck.

Such good questions this week! We got a question on forces and I gave a few resources for learning them. The Hand Picked Astonishments: Card Forces is a fantastic DVD which will give you a ton of options. I also recommend that you check out the Royal Road to Card Magic and our very own instant download: Forcing Cards Private Lesson.

    How to Force a Card

If you're looking to veer away from the "Pick-A-Card" plot, I highly recommend that you check out Jon Armstrong's DVDs, Armstrong Card Magic. There are three volumes in this series, every single one has some amazing card magic and beautiful psychology to turn all of your card magic into entertaining miracles. They are some of my favorite DVDs on card magic, so check them out!

    Armstrong Card Magic

I also touched on the awesomeness that is Unwritten by Lyndon Jugalbot. I love this concept. Especially the fact that it is fully customizable. It's visual, practical magic at its best.

    Unwritten Lyndon Jugalbot

And finally this week I talked about the creation process that was used to come up with The Shark. This has been one of my pet card gimmicks for a long time and it's great to see that other magicians are getting such good use out of it.

Also don't forget to comment with what you're going to be for Halloween. I'm going to do something fun with the answers I get. And don't forget to use that coupon code to get and additional 5% off your entire order and get your name in the running for that prize pack.

Posted on October 4, 2013 by Chris Ballinger

Well today's Weekly Recap is primarily about Halloween. But it seems to take a little turn when I get asked about my parents' reaction to my plan of being a professional magician.

Congratulations going out to Cam Bissel, winner of the extremely limited edition White Nautical Deck. Hope you enjoy it and I also hope you enjoy the Nautical Deck that you ordered to get into the running for that. I think those decks are pretty sweet.

Also, don't forget that this is your last week to order Anttack II on pre-sale and get a signed numbered first-run copy. The signed first-run copies are only for those that pre-order Anttack II from Magic Geek.

We also mentioned a couple of other spooky tricks that get great reactions this time of year. The Web by Jim Pace and My Pet Boris by Ian Pidgeon are among our top favorites.

Don't forget to use the coupon code mentioned in the Weekly Recap. That coupon code gets you 5% off your entire order AND if you spend over $75 you automatically get a free Mystery Gift from our box of awesome.
