  • Magic Geek Hat Giveaway

Posted on July 13, 2009 by chris ballinger

As most of you are aware this month is JB July and we are giving away a bunch of awesome prizes at random to those who buy JB Magic Products from us this month. I wanted to take a moment to talk about the Limited Edition Magic Geek Flexfit Caps that are up for grabs. These are not available for purchase and the only way to get them is by winning them during the JB July Giveaway.

The Magic Geek Hero is stitched into a gun-metal gray genuine Flexfit Cap. The words "MAGIC GEEK" is stitched on the back of the hat in jet black thread. The high-quality cap is very comfortable and will protect you from those annoying sun rays.

For every JB Product you buy during the month of July, your name will go into the running for all of the JB July prizes. We will be giving away six of these caps in the drawing. Keep checking the blog for details on the other prizes and more updates on the JB Product Line and the Giveaway.

  • Mark Mason Interview

Posted on June 25, 2009 by chris ballinger

I recently had a little sit-down with JB Magic's Mark Mason. We had a lot of fun filming this interview and talking about some of the new tricks coming from JB Magic.

With Mark's sense of humor and enthusiasm for magic, there's no doubt that he can "roll with the geeks". If you haven't checked out his two DVD Sets Real World Magic and Decade, you should. Both sets have a ton of brilliant magic and routines.

Here are a few of the tricks mentioned in this interview:

  • Permanent DVD Set

Posted on June 11, 2009 by chris ballinger

Our best-selling Instant Download is now available as a DVD set with gimmicks!

Permanent is an original effect, where the ink on the side of a marker is rubbed off, making the marker blank on both sides. In a flash, the writing returns. What makes this effect so strong is that an audience member helps rub the ink off of the marker and then uses the marker to sign a card for your next trick.

The DVD covers the new and improved handling of Permanent as well as a three bonus effect, live footage, and audio commentary. The set includes a special gimmicked Sharpie marker manufactured for us by Sanford. We have also included two other secret items that complete the set and make it perfect for walk around settings.

The Permanent routine was designed to fit in seamlessly with your existing selection of tricks. If you have people sign cards or coins in your show you should use Permanent to introduce your pen. If you don't already use a marker in your show, the Permanent DVD covers two excellent routines that require someone to mark a coin or card.

I have been using a home-made version of the gimmick for a while and I'm so happy with the high-quality gimmick that Sanford made up for us. This trick is a huge hit in my walk-around shows. People ask to see it again and again.

  • Russian Ball Video

Posted on May 22, 2009 by chris ballinger

After developing our new NaCl Russian Balls we couldn't wait to take them out for a test run. So, we got some NaCl balls, some Russian-style costumes and our trusty video camera and shot another silly commercial.

The NaCl Russian Balls come in two sizes: 80mm and 65mm. The smaller size is my new favorite ball to juggle five-ball patterns.

The new plug design allows you to change the weight of the balls in case you like a heaver or lighter ball. We chose to fill the balls with salt because it slides smoothly along the inside of the ball and it is an easy substance to find for weight adjustments.

  • Finding What You Need

Posted on May 18, 2009 by chris ballinger

There are quite a few tools built into Magic Geek that can help you find what you are looking for. Using these functions are a lot of fun because they can quickly guide you to what you need and surprise you with other tricks that might fit your show in ways you hadn't thought about.

The first two options are the most basic and they can be found on every page here at Magic Geek. They are the Categories Side Bar and the Search Box. The Sidebar lets you narrow down you search by Style, Price, and Skill Level. The Search Box lets you type in key words to find the trick you are looking for. For the best results on our search engine, use shorter search phrases instead of long descriptions of the trick.

Another very helpful and often overlooked tool on Magic Geek is the Jump Categories Box. This can be found on the top of every product list page.

Click it and a Drop Down Menu will appear with all the different types of products that we carry. Here, the categories are broken up into even more detail. For example: the Card Tricks Section is broken up into Packet Effect, Revelations, and Trick Decks.

By clicking on one of these Sub-Categories you will be taken to a page that contains only those types of tricks. So if you want to look for tricks that are specific to Gambling, we've got a sub-category for that. Comedy? We've got one for that too. Etc.

If you still don't see what you're looking for, you can check out our Forum. There is a great thread called the Trick Finder, where you can describe a trick to our magicians and they'll tell you the name of the trick you're looking for and where to find it. Who knows? Someone might have already asked your question and the answer will still be posted there. And of course you can always e-mail or call us using the contact information at the bottom of the screen.
