  • Introducing the New Magic Geek

Posted on August 24, 2012 by Chris Ballinger

As you may have noticed, the Magic Geek Website looks a little different. It actually functions differently as well. This blog post will give a quick overview of the new features and let you know about some of the hick-ups that we are working on.

There are a few pressing issues that I want to address first: Unfortunately we were not able to transfer customer information to the new shopping cart platform. This means that you will have to recreate your Magic Geek account. The nice thing about this is that you will be able to create your own password and create things like a wishlist and ask questions about products right on the product page.

Another unfortunate event is that we lost a lot of our more recent blog entries. So don't be fooled by the Paul Harris give-away and other announcements as they are a couple of years old.

But now, to the good stuff:

You'll notice that Magic Geek is far more organized, using drop-down menus to give you more ways to narrow your search for the perfect magic trick.

For example, if you scroll over "Close-Up" you will see options for "Top-Sellers", "Sponge", "Cups", "Ropes", "Rings", and "Silk". If you don't know exactly what you're looking for, you can just click "Close-Up" and the entire list of Magic Geek Recommended Close-Up tricks will display.

From here you can see the price, add something to your cart, add to your wishlist, compare products or see more information.

Here's where it starts getting really cool. If you want to see Close-Up magic, but you know you don't want something too hard, you can click "Easy" or "Easiest" to filter out all of the "Intermediate" or "Advanced" tricks. You can do the same sorting by price, performance-style, or inventor.

If you click on one of the products it will take you to the "More Information" page. From here, you can read the product description; watch a video demo; add the product to your cart, wishlist or compare; read reviews; see related products and add tags. Any tags you add will help you and others search for the product in the future.

Another cool feature of the new Magic Geek is that we carry way more magic than we used to. In fact, if we put it all into the regular categories, it would be so overwhelming and cluttered that you'd never find what you were looking for. It is for that reason that any product that we haven't tested out thoroughly won't be found in those drop-down menus, but they can be found in a search.

If you don't see the product you are looking for, type it into the search bar and chances are, it will come up in the search.

Well, those are the basic nuts and bolts of the new site. I want to thank everyone that gave us constructive criticism over the past few years. Your input has been crucial in the development of this new design and we look forward to hearing your thoughts as we move forward.
