Geeks in the News

The Santa Barbara News Press did a nice story on Magic Geek this Sunday. We were interviewed a couple of weeks back and it was a lot of fun showing the reporter around the warehouse and showing her all of our wacky inventions.

The story took up a good chunk of the Life Section and talked about how Magic Geek was started and how we became the geeks that we are today. It's really cool when people recognize the hard work and uniqueness of our business.

After talking to the reporter about the excitement we felt learning magic as children, we showed her a few magic tricks. I did a few classics like the Bite Out Quarter and Sponge Balls as well as a few originals that we plan on releasing with instructional DVDs in the next couple of months.

Great to see you guys are getting some well earned attention. I hope the article also gave you credit for your excellent service. That's such a rare thing these days that it's a kind of magic all by itself!
    Keep up the good work.

To all of you who want to read the full article, I think that there are some legal issues with us posting the whole thing. I think you can subscribe and download it directly from the SB News Press.

To Bryan, it means different things to different people. I think that magic is a real testament to our human desire for something more than what we experience day to day.

To David, a lot of youtube users are very mean and sometimes unnecessarily so. I think you should take what they say with a grain of salt. If they are being constructive, use what they tell you and try to learn from it. This can help with your presentation. But be careful not to let those mean comments get you down or make you self-conscious. You are performing your magic, and that is awesome. And on a side note: it's really easy to click that "Delete my Comment" button.

dude, Chris, you have crazy skill, and I was wondering if I could get your opinion on something, I've just taken up magic 9mostly card tricks)and I was wondering, what's your favorite deck of gimmicked cards? (like a gaff deck, or the mental photography, or stripper, etc.)

Ooh, that's a great question Ian. I really like decks that allow you to do more than one routine. I feel like out of all of the decks you listed, I would have to go with the Stripper Deck for that very reason. The Gaff Deck is great too, if you have a good background in what is possible with it. I guess you really need to ask yourself what type of magic you want to perform. If you're looking for something super visual, Mental Photography is great, the gaff deck will give you a fun challenge, and the stripper deck will allow you to do a ton of tricks without much sleight of hand.

ya, I like the gaff deck a lot, to, you are so good with it, but is it hard to use? (keeping in mind I'm a beginner)and it is kinda pricey... and thanks for replying quickly!
