Chris- I'm not very happy, and I don't have so much Geek appreciation right now. The Kozuch Gimmcik and the Z fold wallet are really not good. The gimmick and trick for both of them are horrible! They are a waste of money. Every time I perform the z fold wallet, someone asks to inspect it, or they figure it out on the spot. The Kozuck gimmick doesn't fit in my hand, and the motion to perform the trick is really obvious. What's so disappointing is that I had to save up to be able to buy these tricks, and they are not good. I am very upset. After all, I'm only 12 years old and I don't recieve money very often, so the money I spent was my savings.

Yonah: Wow. I'm so sorry that you weren't happy with your tricks. We at Magic Geek always stand behind our products, but more importantly, we've got your back if there's a problem. Please call us during our regular business hours (9-5 PST Mon.-Fri.) and we'll figure something out. Or E-mail me and I'll give you some pointers that made these tricks work great for me. (chris@magicgeek.com) Thanks for ordering with us and letting us know that there was a problem.

What happened to the list of newly added items on the home page????

Posted on December 4, 2008 at 9:48 am

  • Chris Ballinger

The newly added items section has been temporarily replaced with a "Gift Guide" section for the holidays. It will be changed back after the Christmas season. The tech guys are working on adding a little button under the Gift Guide that will take you to the top twenty new arrivals. In the mean time, you can subscribe to our youtube account which will notify you whenever a new video is posted or join our mailing list where every week we list our latest additions.

my hopping half shells got stuck together John and I ran warm water over them to slightly expand them like when you can't get a jar open. then i held it with the inner shell facing down and with my thumb and pointer finger on each side of the set and i toss it down flat on a counter top. it will slowly come loose and then you'll be good to go

Hey David: The Fantasma set is great. There are a ton of tricks in there. But you have to keep in mind that a lot of those tricks will be made of cardboard or plastic and might be pretty easy for an audience to figure out. I'd recommend looking at the street, stage or close-up combos that we've put together because they will last longer, be easier to learn and all the tricks are usable in a professional show. Thanks for your question.

Hey Luke: I am not Chris but I do have something to recommend. I am eleven year old to and I already have a magic company [15.00 a show]. Since you have like $110, I recommended to bye the stage magic set that magic geek has provided, or just wait to see what you get for Christmas.
    Merry Christmas,

Hey Luke: In my experience, the best routines for birthday parties are the Change Bag, Dove Pan, Magic Coloring Book, 'Fraid Knot, Hoppin Spots, Mental Epic, No Tear and the Vanishing Coke Bottle. The best thing to do is watch the demos, see if it fits your style, and check the skill level.

Posted on December 22, 2008 at 4:43 am

  • Brennen
    Brennen says:

Also Luke I recommend taking acting classes. I have taken a bunch of them just because I like acting. Acting classes help because it makes the audience actually believe in what you are doing. It helps me a lot in my performances, but I don't know about you.

I need some pointers. I'm preparing for my first stage performance and I'm thinking about getting the multiplying bottles routine. I have a lot of time to prepare so time to master the trick shouldn't be an issue. I do however need more tricks to do to form a routine (I'll be on stage for a while) and I'm not sure what to get. If you have any pointers on a routine for a first time stage performance, I'd greatly appreciate some help. Thanks. :)

Chris- i have relied on magic geek for some great tricks. like, d'lite, svengali deck, hydrums haunted hanky and more. but when i get money i want to spend it wisley. i get some money at christmas and i was wondering if i should get the gecko? i was a little dissapointed with the raven and i was wondering with that if i am going to be dissapointed with that, thank you very much,

    Brad

Posted on December 23, 2008 at 6:08 am

  • Chris Ballinger

Hey Steven: The Multiplying Bottles is a fantastic stage effect. If you like to talk during your show I recommend Hoppin Spots, Hippity Hop Rabbits, and one of the Vanishing Bottles. If you are a silent act, I recommend the China Mystery Circle Square, Magic Flower Bag, Zombie Ball, and Torn & Restored Newspaper.

Posted on December 24, 2008 at 1:30 am

  • Chris Ballinger

Hello Brad: I personally think that the Gecko is a great trick. However, I also think that the Raven is a great trick. If you were unhappy with the Raven I wouldn't recommend getting the Gecko. They work in different ways, but if you were uncomfortable with the Raven, I bet you'll run into some of the same problems with the Gecko. Thanks for your question.

David: Judging by your previous posts, you seem like you're into Card and Street stuff. I would recommend looking into some books or DVDs, you're going to get a lot more magic for your buck that way. I really like the Easy to Master Card Miracles DVDs by Micheal Ammar. It's old-school stuff, but I still use a lot of it in my shows. Also, have you checked out Just Think or Club Sandwich? Those are some new card tricks that I'm really into lately.

Hey Chris! Did you have a good Christmas? Just a couple questions, not so much a complaint, but i got a street magic kit for xmas and its AMAZING, but when i was practicing coin through bottle, the coin fell apart, but i put it back together but insted of 2 of the things, i used 3. Will this effect the lifetime of the trick? and is there any way i can exchange the thumbtip i got in it for a juninor and lighter toned tip? but its already out of the package, but its fine if you cant. Oh, and is there any tricks i could get for my cousin for xmas? he has ivanish, the web, hopping spots, dlite pair, invisible svengali and stripper deck. that and any tricks to suggest to my parents for my b-day, i really like street magic, i got street magic kit stuff rising card and stripper deck and ivanish too, so maybe you could suggest some other tricks that are a good run for their money? tyvm Chris!

sorry not chris-david, the best thing you could possibly buy is the svengali deck. the trick isn the demo only scratches thes the surface of what you can do with it. also, buy the booklet, 101 tricks with a svengali deck. magic geek doesn't stock it, but for some reason it's always on ebay.

Posted on December 28, 2008 at 8:57 am

  • Chris Ballinger

Hey John, thanks for writing! I had a wonderful Christmas! How was yours? The best thing you can do to make sure you are satisfied with your purchases on Magic Geek is to direct your inquiries to our sales department (sales@magicgeek.com) That way they can look up your order and make everything right. It also avoids the possible revelation of secrets on this public blog. The lifetime of the gimmick in question should not be effected by the number of "things" used. Speaking of which, those "things" are available in the accessories section if you end up needing to replace them again. And here are a few recommendations for you and your cousin: Lethal Tender, Dime and Penny, B'Wave, Ghost Matchbox, Rising Card, and Floating Match on Card.

This question is for anyone in magic geek:

the invisible deck... mathheu recommends it, but ive never performed it witha a real audience, coz im afraid that they take a really good peek at the cards... im afraid they figure it out... how do u perform it? any ways of misdirection ?

Posted on December 29, 2008 at 6:56 pm

  • Chris Ballinger

Hristo: All of the focus is going to be on that upside-down card. I usually spread the cards, to display the reversed card, take that card out and close up the rest of the deck. That way, by the time they are trying to figure out the method, there is nothing to look at but their selected card. You have to remember that the audience has no idea how the deck is arranged, so they don't know what to look for. Just make sure you're comfortable with the handling because confidence is going to be your best misdirection.

Hello Yonah: We took a long weekend and so we didn't send out a MMM this week. Sorry about that. The Gecko is a great trick. I also like the rope stuff covered in Fiber Optics and the versatility of the Scotch and Soda. I'm going to write a post in just a little bit that will go over my favorite effects of the year. You should check out those tricks also.

Posted on December 30, 2008 at 10:58 am

  • Chris Ballinger

Hey Sammy: I try to avoid twists, but if they happen, it's no big deal. A few tricks that can be built into longer routines are Sponge Balls, Cups and Balls, Professor's Nightmare, and the Linking Rings. Happy New Year!

Posted on January 13, 2009 at 10:33 am

  • Chris Ballinger

Hello Pete: That's a tough one to answer because I don't think that one is "better" than the other. I will say that if I had to pick one I would go with the Invisible Deck. For some reason that odd colored card makes people suspicious of the deck. I find that the card being turned over is amazing enough without raising suspicion. Also, there is more of an opportunity to create a very unique routine with the Invisible Deck.

Hi Jacob: it's nice to meet a "fast paced stage magic man age 11"! I would suggest taking a look at Bisection Unlimited, Houdini Death Device, Knife Thru Arm, Needle Thru Arm, and Fiber Optics.

Posted on January 24, 2009 at 5:21 pm

Hello Hristo: honestly, I don't perform much levitation stuff so I haven't played with it a whole lot. But what I did experience with the Spider Pen, I really liked. It is certainly the best reel that I've ever used and its replaceable spools lengthen its life expectancy considerably. I think that if you like doing IT tricks with a reel, then you'll really like this clever gimmick.

    Hey Chris,
Can you recommend me one powerful, hard-hitting,jaw dropping effect to perform at school? Don't give me any card tricks though cause they don't allow students to bring cards to school. The trick need to at least be examinable afterwards and is small enough to fit in my pocket. I need to find a powerful effect because I always show one of my friend tricks and he figured it out 85% of the time. My friend thinks he's a genius because he figured out almost every trick I show him. I want this effect to be the most amazing thing he ever seen and I want him to remember this effect for as long as he live. I know it's a long comment but I really want you to recommend me a trick.
I really appreciate your help Chris.

P.S. this will be the first time i order from your website

Hi Pete: This is a great question for you to post on our new forum. I would try Flow, Bite Out Quarter, Perfect PENetration, Loops, Healed and Sealed Soda, Mind Bender, and UV Nightshades. Whatever trick you decide to go with, you should practice a lot in front of a mirror and then perform it for an easier audience BEFORE showing it to your "genius" friend. Even the simplest trick can fool the most skeptical audience, if done properly.

Posted on February 6, 2009 at 2:40 am

Thanks a lot Chris! I decided I'm gonna go with perfect penetration. I'm going to show it to my "genius" friend on Tuesday and I'll tell you how it goes.
