We Want to Know:

What's your favorite gimmick and why? We very rarely get to talk about the awesome gizmos that we secretly use. Now's your chance to recommend or express your views on the sneaky things that heighten our magical abilities.

Please try to avoid giving away any of the secrets. Just tell us why you like using it.

Here are Chris' picks:
Thumb Tip: Given the number of effects possible with a TT, it's no wonder that you'll find one in just about every close-up magician's case.
Expanded Shell: This is one of those gimmicks that allows you to use sleight of hand, while making your magic look way more visual.
Reel: I have been converted. I don't know why I put up a front for so long, but the Spider Pen has replaced my standard reel. No clips, no rubberbands, way easier to refill, and no need to worry about hiding the thing; it hides itself.
Third Degree Burn: This thing is so cool, that I'm always tempted to show it to people. It's very well thought out and expertly manufactured. Not to mention that the effect is stunning.

Please feel free to comment and let others know what you use. What do you consider to be the best gimmicks out there?

I really like Loops! They are easy to carry around and make the impossible seem very possible. I've been a fan of them for years!

Truthfully, I like all gimmicks! But my favorite (not really a gimmick but gaff) is the ghost gaff deck. I do not currently own one, but I have seen people explain it and seen demos of what you can do and its awesome. MagicGeek.com Does not currently carry them but they should! best cards out their in my opinion. If the admins on magic geek are reading this i suggesting getting some ASASP.

You'll probably groan at this, but My favorite gimmick may not be considered a gimmick at all by some...it's slight of hand. With constant rehearsal I am always ready to perform, no matter what material may be on hand (pun at no extra cost). My favorite might be coins, since I always have some in my pocket. Believe me; if you can entertain with a "gimmicked" coin, when combined with some manipulation techniques, you can perform absolute miracles.

  • Kris the Clue Monger

Being new, only a few are seen by adults(for now). Kids get a kick outta the vanishing egg bag (I, very obviously, hide it in my cheek and use the a.pit ruse just cuz it's fun for them to "know" it's 1 of 2 places. When I ask if they're ready, I just mumble and point. Kids love it until they find that perhaps it IS gone?! (til I cough, sneeze, etc.) Adults seem to like PEN thru dollar, and cig thru 25 cents. I'll be looking into those mentioned by the more experienced above. Thanks
